WellNow and I are working on a project for a video game. We have the game engine and the storyline, we have the will power and the know how. What we don’t have (up until tonight) was the modeling software.
I’m familiar with 3DS Max and the free program Anim8or. Which concerning Anim8or, WellNow has given me considerable shit. We are staying legal, so we didn’t want to pirate Max or Maya. Just a few days ago, WellNow brought up the free modeling program Blender.
I was reluctant to switch to a new program, as I had used Blender in the past and didn’t like it to say the least. It had a bad UI, which was my main beef. I never went back after that first download and trial of the software.
Given our current situation, Anim8or is a joke and Max and Maya are out of the question. So after considerable griping about not being able to use Max, I downloaded Blender and gave it a try. After downloading the 2.5 Alpha, I was extremely surprised and changed my artist status from “Gripe” to “Glee”.
The UI had a HUGE update. Features like scaling and adding modifiers have been much simplified. I may post a Blender Convert review a bit later, but for now, I’m definitely sold on using Blender as my modeling platform of choice1
Keep an eye out for some site updates. I’m working on a vegetarean cooking blog. Also working on posting old artwork and possibly old writings…
Stay nerdy webninjas!
